Yakima Nation Housing Authority

This project consisted of 30 single-family homes at the Adams View Addition in Wapato, WA, in addition to site development for a total of 124 units. The site was designed for 3 phases of housing, this being the first phase. Two, three and four bedroom houses were built, with handicap variations of the two bedroom units. In addition some of the units were duplexes. The overall cost of the project was $4.3 million.

The homes were designed for efficiency and durability. A heat pump system was incorporated to take advantage of energy savings that could be afforded in the moderate climate and could also provide air conditioning during the summer months. Metal roofs and permanent siding have been used for durability. These homes incorporate porches to provide a transition space between indoors and out as well as provide some sheltered outdoor living space. An open kitchen with a combined living and dining space helps to open up the interior of the house and provide better flow for the occupants.

Working closely with the owner ensured that the project provided the maximum utility for the Housing Authority and that all their desired features were incorporated within the design.
